NewsU2 play mini-set at film festivalU2 launched their new film 'U2 3D' at the Cannes Film Festival last night (May 19). The band played a short set at the French event to ahead of the premiere of the road film shot which was on the South American leg of their Vertigo Tour. Bono and co performed 'Vertigo' and 'Where The Streets Have No Name' at the red carpet entrance to the Grand Theatre Lumiere, reports Reuters. The film uses new three dimensional camera technology that allows footage to get closer to the performers onstage than has been possible on previous live films. The Cannes audience witnessed a 55 minute preview of the film, ahead of the full version (expected to be 90 minutes) which will be released internationally in around 1000 3D equipped cinemas. The film is not the only rock n roll movie to make an impact at this year's film festival. As previously reported, Joy Division film 'Control' got its premiere at Cannes on Thursday (May 17). Kanye Targeting September For 'Graduation' Kanye West is eyeing a September release for his third Def Jam album, "Graduation," which, as first reported here in January, will feature Coldplay's Chris Martin on the song "Graduation" as well as track "Can't Tell Me Nothing," a snippet of which has begun making the rounds online. The latter cut, which was assembled with the help of DJ Toomp, finds West rapping, "I had a dream I could buy my way to heaven / When I woke I spent that on a necklace / I told God I'd be back in a second / Man, it's so hard not to act reckless." West previously told Billboard he'd be working again with producer/multi-instrumentalist Jon Brion, who played a key role on his 2005 album "Late Registration." The artist will make a handful of live appearances this summer, beginning July 2 in Manchester, England, and including a July 7 set at Live Earth in East Rutherford, N.J., a July 14 stop at the Cisco Systems Bluesfest in Ottawa, Ontario, and an Aug. 18-19 booking at the U.K.'s V Festival. |
